What do people use to clean cases in general? Some have said not to use Armor All. I just got an early 60's Jazzmaster case that could use a bit of cleaning on the exterior -- it is the brown tolex. What is beat? Thanks |

New cases...Armor All is o.k. OLD Cases - never... you will ruin it! For the most part you don't clean it at all! If there is something "stuck on it" ( like the remnants of an old cheeze burger or something) A little warm water carefully blotted on. I would never use anything else. Also if you coose to vacuum the interior ( I wouldn't) be careful as very often the velvet linning and or the foam has deteriorated enough over the years to tear and rip easily. Especially with the strength of some of today's vacuums. |

Naphta works well on tolex. |

Doesn't Armor-All have silicone? If so, I wouldn't let it near an instrument, not even its case. |

Wouldn't Naphta fry out the tolex? Silicone is bad for finishes? |

Silicone will contaminate wood and make it very difficult to repair nitro. Naphta doesn't eat into tolex but you might want to try on a small spot before dousing the whole case⦠|

I like Naptha a lot but not for this application. Naptha tends to dry and dull things. I do like using it to clean fret boards. Dan Erlewine talks about it quite a bit in several of his videos. The thing you also need to consider is the old dried glue holding the case tolex ( or whatever) on. You get the wrong liquid in there and you make things worse not better. |
